Meet our 2026 SCARLET Summer Interns: Lauren, Yaire, and Maddie
This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming three talented students to the lab through the SCARLET program. Lauren, Yaire, and Maddie brought unique backgrounds, interests, and career aspirations to their summer experience and we’re excited to introduce them!
Meet Lauren Ziegenhagen
Lauren is from Waco, Texas, and attends Texas A&M University in College Station, where she is pursuing a degree in Agribusiness with a minor in Chemistry.
After gaining some professional experience, Lauren plans to pursue a master’s degree. Her goal is to build a career in the fertilizer industry at the intersection of product development and management, helping connect the science behind new products with the needs of customers and the marketplace.
Outside of school, Lauren enjoys watching movies and football, playing the violin, and playing card games.
Meet Yaire Ramos
Yaire is from Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural and Environmental Systems at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
She plans to pursue a master’s degree in soil science and hopes to use her knowledge to help farmers and communities manage soil and natural resources more sustainably while protecting the environment.
In her free time, Yaire enjoys cooking, watching movies, and reading.
Meet Maddie Carmichael
Maddie is from Houston, Texas, and attends Texas A&M University in College Station, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology with a concentration in Forest Resources.
After graduation, Maddie hopes to combine her passion for natural resources with her interest in the trades, exploring opportunities in areas such as environmental restoration, arboriculture, and renewable energy construction.
Outside of the classroom, Maddie loves drawing and painting, playing drums for her worship band, playing video games, volunteering, and her favorite, working on construction projects with Texas A&M BUILD.
We’re grateful for the energy, curiosity, and perspectives Lauren, Yaire, and Maddie brought to the lab this summer. We can’t wait to see where their education and passion for agriculture, natural resources, and sustainability take them next!
